This is fantastic place to start your exploration into the world of 3d. As an open source software, Blender has tons, TONS, of online tutorials and support. The program itself allows for fantastic 3d animation and renders, 3d motion tracking for compositing, and regular updates. It is one of the best communities on the web, where blogs, forums, and free downloads are easy to come by. The program is entirely free, donations optional but really help the work that they do.

Black Magic’s Fusion 8 is a beast. It is a node based system, which might take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it you will understand why so many people see it as the most efficient method for editing and compositing. Fusion allows you to key, rotoscope, motion track and composite, bringing VFX into your world seamlessly. It also has internal particle systems and the ability to import and composite 3d models, not leaving much to be desired. Though we have not seen too many tutorials from users, they host training videos to get you started.
